Simama! Say NO to Harmful Practices - Student-Led Action in Amudat
Creation Steppers Youth Development Initiative (CSYDI) is excited to announce the launch of "Simama! Say NO to Harmful Practices," a transformative 3-month project targeting harmful cultural practices including child marriage, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), and sexual and gender-based violence (S/GBV) in Amudat District.
Project Focus
This initiative brings together students, teachers, and community members in Loroo and Abiliyep Sub-counties to create lasting change through student-led advocacy and community engagement. Our target schools are Loroo Primary School and Loroo Seed Secondary School, where we will establish vibrant school clubs dedicated to ending these harmful practices.
Key Project Activities
- School Club Formation: Establish 2 student-led clubs as platforms for youth advocacy and awareness.
- Community Dialogues: Organize talking chats and community engagement sessions to increase awareness about harmful practices.
- Creative Advocacy: Use drama, debates, and video production to amplify powerful messages against child marriage, FGM, and S/GBV.
- Community Cinema Nights: Screen educational content to engage families and foster community conversations.
- Media Campaigns: Launch radio talk shows and social media campaigns to reach wider audiences with life-changing messages.
Why This Matters
In Amudat District, harmful cultural practices remain prevalent due to cultural norms, poverty, and low awareness. These practices lead to school dropout, early pregnancies, and increased vulnerability to violence. By empowering students as change-makers and engaging communities in dialogue, we believe we can reduce these harmful practices and protect the rights and future of adolescent girls.
Our Vision
We envision a generation of confident, informed youth advocates who challenge harmful norms and promote the rights of adolescent girls. Through school clubs, community dialogues, creative expression, and media engagement, we are building momentum for sustainable change in Amudat.
Together, let's Say NO to Harmful Practices and empower our youth to be agents of change!
